"Three weeks in the Great Western, February 2017"

About: The Great Western Hospital / Respiratory medicine

I was admitted as an emergency the day after I had left the John Radcliffe in Oxford because they needed the bed! Fortunately my daughter who lives near Malmesbury had collected me and taken me to her home so that when my temperature went up and i became incoherent,

I was taken to the Great Western.

My memory of the early days is blurred but I was aware that they had found the problem (empyema) and were treating it.

The doctors looked after me very well and the nursing staff were caring and efficient.

I didn't really want food for some days but when I eventually started to eat a little I was impressed with the quality of the food.

My daughter was also impressed by the care which went into deciding about my discharge, in contrast to the Oxford experience.
