My 93 year old Mum couldn't walk and I needed to get her the GWH for an X-ray. Transport wasn't available and so the surgery registered her as a 999 call. An ambulance was promised within 4 hours so I went to give Mum a spot of lunch before her trip.
As I arrived at her flat 5 minutes away I found the ambulance already there and the crew just getting their kit together.
They were pleasant, friendly and worked as though they had all the time in the world. They let me give Mum her lunch whilst carrying out checks and paperwork and, best of all, they really engaged with Mum. It's so easy to ignore an older person, who clearly can't see or hear very well, and just rely on the relative to fill in all the blanks. Mum was thrilled and enjoyed her conversation with them, their kindness and the professional way they dealt with her.
A big thank you, you were amazing and you made an old lady feel very special.
