"The doctor was approachable and kind"

About: Heathfield Suite / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I attended the heathfield suite for a gynaecologist outpatient appointment. My appointment was for 11. 30. I was not seen until midday however I am a staff nurse and totally appreciate the challenges involved in trying to keep services on time.

My wait was even less of an issue when I met Dr Solokova ( unsure of spelling).

I have attended many outpatient appointments in the past and always find members of staff professional and efficient in their role, however I feel Dr Solokova really is such an asset to Ayrshire and Arran. I attended this clinic 6 months previously and had assumed I would see the same Dr, so when I discovered I was seeing someone else I was mildly anxious about going over my whole history again and as I'm sure you appreciate, this type of appointment is much more intimate than attending an orthopaedic surgeon for a foot problem.

I had no reason to be anxious. Dr Solokova had quickly managed to gain a history from my notes and listened carefully to my recent experiences & concerns.

I felt very at ease within minutes of meeting her. I found her extremely approachable, exceptionally knowledgable, understanding and kind.

Most of all she made me feel individual and communicated to me as a Doctor, but also as a woman herself. Considering her clinic was running behind, and it was almost lunch time, she did not make me feel rushed & I left feeling motivated by the health advice she had given me. The nurse who was with Dr Solokova ( Did not catch her name) was equally supportive. Most of my communication was with Dr, however the nurse listened and appeared to really care and empathised. She appeared genuinely interested and keen to help. A nurse who without even saying much, displayed body language which invites patients to feel cared for and at ease.

As a member of Ayrshire and Arran staff I never mind waiting for appointments due to knowing the pressures, but I felt even more reassured knowing the patients before and after me were being supported as well as me.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Ruxpin567,

The qualities you have experienced during your gynae consultation with Dr Sokolova and the nurse are so important. As a woman, I appreciate how gynae related issues lends a completely different dimension but I can also argue that it would be wonderful if everyone experienced such care at all times. (I best not spark a gender war).

This is truly a delightful story, thank you for sharing it with us. I am very happy to make sure Dr Sokolova and the team see your post. and I am sure it will make their day.

best wishes,

Eunice
