"My appointment at Ilkeston hospital"

About: Ilkeston Community Hospital

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at the clinic at 5. 20pm. To attend this my boss had to arrange for paid cover staff at my job. I turned up for my appointment and, after some confusion, was told that my appintment had been changed to a later date at 5. 10pm as shown on the new letter. I never received such a letter! I am now in the position that I have to either lose pay/holiday to cover this change. I am (understandably) furious.

Thank you for taking the time to write this post about the service you received when trying to attend an Outpatients Appointment at Ilkeston Community Hospital

I apologise for the fact that your experience was poor. We really try hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients. Please accept my assurances that we will learn from your concerns.

We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and assist you in making a formal complaint if you so wish and we would appreciate it if you would be willing to contact our Patient Experience Team. 01773 525119

Many thanks for your response. I am very pleased that you took the time to do so as it means that someone, somewhere does actually care about the service given to your patients. I will take the time to give you a telephone call, not to make a formal complaint but to explain more fully why I felt the need to share my experience.

Over quite a few years I have dealt with Ilkeston hospital for appointments and for procedures (including a couple of day patient surgical procedures) and I would like to take the time to point out that the excellent levels of care I have received have been second to none (which I pointed out on my feedback forms) this is why I was so surprised by my shoddy experience. Also, I had taken the time to arrange with my workplace for cover staff for my appointment in the faith that I would be seen on my original given appointment and the fact that it was altered without my knowledge meant that I have now to lose pay or holiday hours to cover my replacement appointment which is inexcusable and makes me a little concerned that it could happen again! Once again, thanks for the response it has restored some of my faith that something my be done to reduce the risk of other patients suffering the same problems in the future
