"New catheter does not work"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Recently discharged following operation for enlarge prostrate. Prior to discharge fitted with flip flow valve on catheter in an attempt to re introduce integrity to the bladder, the first fitting of a catheter having taken place weeks before, Within 10 minutes of fitting the valve slipped out of catheter, wetting myself and hospital bed. On the journey home the valve slipped out again, wetting self. Following arrival at home valve slipped out two more times wetting self, seat and carpet. Re introduced leg bag. Following day, Monday 1, attempted again to use the flip flow valve, with similar results. By early afternoon had re introduced leg bag which I intend to keep until period of review, two weeks, has ended. The problem is, although it seems to be a mechanical problem, I am referred to A&E to get it fixed, which seems an unnecessary burden and what, in my experience, is an overstretched service.
