About: Lewes Victoria Hospital

What could be improved

The signs and attitude of the staff.

I approached Poile ward (recently subject to a major refit) during evening visiting hours - following the signs from the main entrance. Ringing the bell was ignored and I was eventually let in by a cleaner. On getting to the ward I was greeted by a nurse with (in a very agressive tone) "How did you get in here?". I explained that I had been let in after ringing the bell and had followed the signs. I was then told that they ignored the bell as the ward entrance was now directly from the driveway (I checked on the way out - it is not marked as the ward entrance).

I am appalled that huge amounts of money are spent on refurbishment and, six weeks after opening, no-one can even get the signs right.

The attitude of the two staff I encountered was dreadful - I'm sorry I have a relative incacereated there.

To complete the diatribe, why can't www.nhs.uk/ServiceDirectories

list a phone number for this hospital - is this a public facility or not?
