After several years of being mucked about (forms going missing, not being sent, gp having to rerefer etc) I eventually got an appointment.
We struggled to find parking and so had to park in the shopping centre across from the centre, when I mentioned this to the receptionist (out of puff and in extreme pain from the walk) I was told there was designated underground parking, I replied that directions or a little map on the letter would've helped ( many other NHS facilities in my area do this) they replied "oh that would be too easy! "
45 minutes after my appointment I was still waiting (in the seating area which for a pain clinic you would've thought would've provided better and more supportive seating) but this gave me hope that the consultant would be thorough and take note off all the information and medical history. How wrong I was.
I was take into the room and without looking at me the Dr said - I see you have had chronic pain for several years as you know women complain about pain much more than men so I will send you to a psychiatrist then possibly physiotherapy but you will need to see the psychiatrist for 11 weeks!
I explained that I had seen a psychologist as part of a pain course and wasn't sure why they thought a psychiatrist would help. I then said that I have ongoing physiotherapy too and I was at the clinic because they felt there was no more they could do to help my pain (no discussion of my diagnosis at all).
They then asked what medication I was in an I gave them the list,
I mentioned I was on a new medication as I have been having chronic migraines worse than I have ever had before to which they replied - oh yes women always complain of migraines - you will hear from the psychyitrist in the next two months
And dismissed me.
I was in and out in less than 4 minutes!
I feel like this was disgusting behaviour from a medical professional towards me.
"I was in and out in less than 4 minutes!"
