"Given ownership of my recovery"

About: Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Kirsty introduced herself at my initial consultation. She then went on to ask what the problem was and what I was hoping to achieve. I felt involved in the process from the start through to the end of my treatment. I was pleased to be able to get an appointment quickly at a time that suited me, subsequent appointments were also made around my work commitments.

During my initial consultation Kirsty confirmed I had no permanent damage. The exercises she gave me helped with the most recent injury but also an injury that I have had for more than 15 years.

Getting back to my level of fitness and ability to work out in the gym as I had done prior to my injury was what mattered to me. After just a few sessions I was in that position and agreed that no more appointments were required. I felt involved in the decision to end my visits to the clinic and was given ownership of my recovery.

Dear 79ClaireB

Thank you for telling us about your recent healthcare experience; does this relate to the physiotherapy service? If you could confirm this I would then be able to pass this on. Asking people what is important to them and then working with them to achieve this is a truly person centred approach. You have articulated how you felt involved in the process, which is exactly how we want people to feel. I am glad to hear that you have managed to achieve what you set out to do and are back working out in the gym.

Thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback.

Regards

Louise
