I had been to A&E on on a Saturday afternoon unable to walk without severe pain in my right leg. I was discharged home on Saturday evening with crutches and told to rest. On returning home I fell over getting out of the car and the severe pain became excruciating.
The ambulance service was called via a 999 call and duly arrived. The ambulance crew was, however, extremely reluctant to take me back to A&E. Wanted us to call Devon Doctors (we had used 111 prior to 999). My husband had to use extreme powers of persuasion to get them to take me to hospital. I needed gas and air to get me out of the house and into the ambulance. I was subsequently diagnosed with a displaced fracture of the femur.
It was disappointing that we had to persuade the crew that I was in sufficient pain to merit an ambulance journey. I couldn't move at all without the gas and air and the pain was definitely at 10 on the scale.
