"Bariatric Surgery"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

I was referred by my GP to the bariatric department in 2014. I had a Roux en Y bypass on 14th Feb 2015 , the effects of which have been life changing. I can commend the whole of the bariatric team for their dedication , professionalism, humanity and skill. I have been treated with dignity and respect. The support has been amazing as has the encouragement.

Unfortunately I found that my experience whilst on the ward was not supportive of the dedication of the team, the staff were not aware of the dietary requirements of patients post surgery but I am sure that this has been addressed.

The appointments service could improve.

I am pleased that the support group has been refocused too.

The surgery is not a silver bullet but a tool to be worked with.
