About: Beardwood Hospital

What I liked

How quickly I was seen, as an NHS patient, from being referred by my GP to having my operation. The facilities and staff were pleasant for my short stay.

What could be improved

I would have liked to see my surgeon pre/post operation. The greatest improvement would be to rewrite the information leaflet that details before/after the procedure as it is out of date and the nurse had to cross out a number of paragraphs. More importantly the information that I received regarding my aftercare was non existent; no information given on how often to change my dressing or what limited activities I was able to do during my recovery. In addition as I had not seen the surgeon since my initial consultation I was distressed at the length of my scar and the number of staples used. Although I am an educated person I feel that the medical staff make incorrect assumptions that patients have a far greater knowledge of medical matters - we don't all watch Holby City or Casualty.
