"Portering department /ambulance service"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

To whom it may concern

I escorted a customer to guys and St Thomas hospital, on arrival at the hospital the paramedic put the patient in a hospital wheel chair and place her zimmer frame on her and said to me here.i struggled to push the chair into the transport department and booked the customer in and requested for a porter, the receptionist said I should escorts the customer and push her around then I explained to them I am not comfortable with that and I can't manage with the chair and they said its OK.. Suddenly the two paramedics came to me said to me you are just an ordinary carer from a care home and you should be pushing that with the zimmer and not wait for porter. They said I should know my job role and don't need a training to push the chair, if I can't push then I should pull it, they humiliated and embarrassed me in front of all the people there. They threatened me that I will lose my job and they reported me to my manager that I am not trained to push a wheelchair and they want to make it formal.

I just want to know why carers are treated differently to other people and why carer have to do portering job in hospital where we are not trained and if anything happens to carers and the patient while performing the task who is going to be responsible and why we have to be bullied into doing what we are not confident doing and trained for and the department don't know the medical history of the carers and all they can suggest is carers escorting a patient should do portering job in hospital where they are unfamiliar with the environment and this exclude family members escorting their families. Its so unprofessional and unsafe practice which should be reported to CQC and other agencies through any media for review of the decision.
