"Awful experience"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Maternity

I went in on the 8th of December 2016 as I was having contractions eventually got me in a ward but just left me I managed to stay calm but after nearly 8 hours I couldn't handle the pain and they weren't sending me down or attending to me. I was in agony that I couldn't even breathe with the pain I was in a bad state by the time they took me to the labour room so I could get pain relief. Everyone in the labour room were helpful but after I delivered on the 9th of December I was sent up to the ward and was just left to deal with it because of the horrible experience I've ended up with depression and it's really put me off staying in that hospital ever again in future I'd like to go to a different hospital. I was in that ward for 4 days and eventually had to ask to be discharged myself was fed up with lack of care and support!

I am sorry to hear that you felt unsupported during the early part of your labour and that you feel the overall experience has led to on-going problems with depression. Clearly this is not the experience we want for women delivering their babies at this hospital and I am sure that the midwifery staff would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and both offer you some support and in turn understand what happened to leave you feeling this way about the birth of your baby. The Maternity department provide a ‘Time to Talk’ service which would give you the opportunity to discuss your concerns in detail and allow staff to learn from your experience. To book a ‘Time to Talk’ appointment with a senior midwife please ring 01553 613904. I do hope you feel able to take up this suggestion as I think you would find it helpful.
