"A stressful experience with my father's medication"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My elderly father was discharged to nursing home. The ward knew of this plan several days in advance. So, all that was required was for his drugs to be available early on Saturday as ambulance collecting him in the morning. I was told by the ward the drugs were ordered on Thursday, so all going to plan. Sadly, a complete fiasco followed that required lots of phone calls and people running round. This created a lot of stress for my father, the nursing staff and my fathers family. All of this was 100 percent avoidable.

Dear elizabethe

Thank you for your feedback regarding your father's discharge from Good Hope Hospital. I am very sorry to learn that there were difficulties and delays in ensuring that his take home medication was ready, and the level of stress caused to your father, ward nursing staff and you and your family.

I would very much like to look into events surrounding your father's discharge, but would require some further information to enable to do this. Can I please ask you to contact me directly on 0121 424 0808 (9am - 3.30pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays, with a voice mail service in operation outside of these hours) or by email:

marie.helebert@nhs.net

I hope this is acceptable and I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

With kind regards

Marie Helebert
