"My daughter was put at ease for her MRI"

My daughter, aged 14, attended Queen Margaret Hospital for an MRI scan.

The staff member, Abbie, who completed her previous scan checklist was lovely with my daughter. Putting her at ease, explaining the procedure in language she could easily understand whilst not treating her like a child, but a young adult. The staff treating her this way enabled her to feel comfortable enough to have her scan without needing a parent with her. The radiographer also put my daughter at ease and gave her an overall extremely positive experience for her first scan. Thank you to the staff for treating her like a young adult and listening to her opinion.

Dear Nervousmum

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your daughter's experience of attending for a MRI scan. I relate to being a nervous mum in similar situations and if I'm honest I must confess that even now that my daughter is older, the nervous mum bit remains! It sounds like Abbie and the Radiographer did a great job of puting your daughter at ease and communincating with her in an appropriate manner. This is exactly what we hope to achieve with every interaction and your example can be shared to re iterate the value of such an approach.

I will make sure the team in Radiology see your post which will be very much appreciated.
