"A Reverse Total RT Shoulder Rpacement (..."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I have Osteoarthritis. had it for some 4 decades now and over the last 10 year have had both Knees ( TKR) with a Consultant from

Bolton Orthopaedics )whom I love very much and their skills have given me pain free years of added mobility, confidence and freedom . I have also had a Partial reconstruction Left Shoulder and now latterly a Reverse TSR on my Right shoulder.

Like many Elective surgery patients Winter hit us hard and I was just about on a 3rd cancellation when my call to attend came for Ward G5 for this Reverse TSR.

Id looked it all up on Google watched a Video and knew it was a complicated piece of surgery.

The Consultant had fully appraised me concerning what they were doing and why, what a remarkable person they are .

If I was doing an appraisal I cannot find fault with anything , all Protocol and procedure ticked the boxes

It was more than just a good Hospital experience with a valued and well needed result for myself,

Bolton Hospital

I feel and Orthopaedics at Bolton are exceptional .

The first Consultant I just love to bits but the second Consultant ' if I could tell them' Is certainly the best Shoulder Surgeon in their year ' .

Quite stunningly marvellous .

If I can clarify for you , im also a 30 yr Ruby playing nutter , packed in at 47 yrs . ( Osteo meant I couldn't get up after a tackle ), ive lived in Physio and training gyms etc and I know my body and understand pain.

So I am now on day 7 post OP, after a very complicated bit of shoulder reconstruction no rotator cuff and a lot of metal and in my case having to re build with Bone grafts my shoulder socket because id left it a little long in day and it had erroded . The Consultant did all that whilst also dealing with I think on our session 4 Emergency admissions . Worship them I really do .

I do not need Physio at day 7 , I am driving , carrying , lifting , combing hair , ( discarded sling as soon as home day 3 ) , minimal discomfort, stitches tugging , absolutely marvellous . Little post op surgery lethargy, all normal . But no panin and my mobility increased 100 % already . I was told , advised and expected minimum of 3 months post op recovery ?

Staff to mention because they were damn good and efficient helpful and caring, Staff Nurse G5 , two lovely Nurses. My incredible Anaesthitist and assistant who have perfected the art of the brachial block to an incredible degree . My recovery Nurse( Ex bereavement Nurse ) who was just good to wake up to.

If I have one small concern its pharmacy-. and the Hospital really do need to get a grip on them .

the only blot on my stay and another patients with me over the 3 days was stress caused by Pharmacy failing to provide ordered Medication when requested. I had to force myself home on day 3 I could have gone Day 2

Another patient was kept 2 whole days because of similar . Doctor on duty had gone home swapped duty not informed anybody . Apparently its a common usual occurrenc
