"I think the recent decision to ..."

About: Fryatt Hospital & Mayflower Medical Centre (harwich)

What could be improved

I think the recent decision to lock early arrivals for blood tests out of the hospital waiting area is a retrograde step and reverts to the practices necessary at the old hospital due to lack of security, which is not the case at the Fryatt Hospital. Trying to limit the numbers of patients attending for blood tests by such practices is an inappropriate management response to a patient need that results in sick and infirm patients queuing outside in adverse weather conditions. If the demand is apparent and consistent enough to warrant action then the resource needs to be provided accordingly. Suitable publicity and education for the public about possible waiting times should also be provided if the numbers are likely to exceed capacity at particular times.

Anything else?

If the intention is persuade patients to use other Pathology facilities e.g. Colchester or Clacton, the Management should give real consideration to the issue of Patient Choice and the implications of travel to more distant locations in thi time of economic receision and the need to be more eco-friendly in all our activities.
