"hospital discrimination because I'm overweight"

About: Caerphilly District Miners Hospital Prince Charles Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Today (11 dec 07) i went to Caerphilly miners District Hospital for my dating pregnancy scan. I was then told that because my BMI (body mass index) is 40 they will not allow me to deliver my baby there as they only allow patients with a BMI of upto 35.

I then requested Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. was again told i couldnt deliver there for the same reason.

I think this is absolutely disgusting. It is clearly discrimination and i will be taking this matter further.

The treatment of overweight people is appauling.

I have already had one healthy pregnancy. As for them saying we carry higher risk, im sorry but there is risk in all pregnancys.

If anyone wishes to contact me regarding this please email me via info@patientopinion.org.uk
