"I would have liked to have had a more informal set up"

About: Beeston Central Children's Centre

(as the patient),

I requested to meet a HV as I was concerned my baby wasn't putting on enough weight.

I was able to be seen tell next day which was great. This was at the Beeston sure start centre.

When I walked in, the HV and a trainee nurse were sat at the end of a big room, behind a desk. There was a laptop open. It felt like an interview and pulled faces at things I said.

I left feeling upset and hopeless. We had a plan but I didn't feel like I or my son were treated in a personal and intimate way.

They were running behind so when my son needed feeling mid way through it was suggested I feed him and she'd would see the next person and come back to me. I was shown to a hot little cupboard room with no windows. Pretty depressing.

I would have liked to have had a more informal set up and for staff to have had a better attitude. New mums are generally in need of a hug. Not to have an interview and a bit of paper towel thrown at them when they get upset.

Dear Newmummy 2016,

I am sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied when accessing this service recently. I apologise for the fact that your experience was poor.

We really try hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our service users so thank you for taking the time to post your comments on this forum. The information you have provided has led to us discussing and making two positive changes to the way we deliver our service -

We are currently remodelling the way we present ourselves during appointments to make the environment feel more friendly. Wherever posible we will be removing the desk that acted as a barrier.

Our Breast Feeding Champion will visit the centre and make any changes necessary to the environment to ensure all service users have access to a comfortable area for feeding.

I have shared your comments with the team and together we have reviewed the service you received and have taken positive steps to prevent a repeat of this situation happening again.

If you would like to speak further about this or the changes we are making, please do get in touch.

Thank you

Tina.
