"Incorrect diagnosis"

About: Leighton Hospital / Accident and emergency

Hi,

Mid February (I believe it may have been around 20/02/2017) I attended an emergency appointment with an OOH GP at around 20.45. Complaining of throat, ear and eye pain I tried to explain to the GP that I had already been diagnosed with potential Tonsillitis but the medication I was provided with (Penicillin) had no effect and I was in too much pain to perform my job role efficiently.

The GP told me I was congested and to buy some decongestants, this was after a very very quick and brief examination where I practically stood up, then sat back down within 20 seconds.

As the decongestants did nothing for me, I visited my local GP once more who diagnosed me with Glandular fever.

Had the examination with the GP had been more thorough, and rather than just staring at me blankly when I asked if they're sure because the pain is severe, I would never have had to suffer in pain for as long as I did.

I felt the professionalism was lacking, I feel the examination was nowhere near thorough and the doctor was more interested in ushering me out of the door than actually listening to me.

I have lost money through buying the decongestants (which may I add, were not cheap), I've also lost pay through my work and I've suffered immensely to the point I've lost a significant amount of weight.

I would like to be contacted as to what will be done about this. My trust and loyalty to the NHS is severely low as it is. I understand I didn't have a broken leg, broken neck or blood pouring out of my body, but everyone deserves a satisfactory level of clinical help. I do understand not everyone will be happy and may be tired, however being listened to would've been beneficial, a thorough examination (i.e. more than 15-20 seconds of having my throat, eye, ear and nose pretty much blinked at) would've been gratefully received. I will be taking this further for reimbursement for the above as I feel as a professional body in a reputable hospital, more care should've been shown.

Thanks.
