"The length of time it takes for a prescription to be delivered to the ward"

About: Southampton General Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I havE been unlucky enough to be admitted to this hospital of late.

I was very impressed my the emergency department and my treatment there, and subsequently admitted to the coronary care ward, which was excellent.

I have no criticism about the procedures, but there is one comment I would like to suggest.

When you are about to be discharged the medication has to be ordered from the pharmacy. thus leading to a long delay in the medication reaching the ward.

Would it not be more efficient to give the prescription to the patient, who can dispense it when convenient.

It would then free up a bed, and would have a knock on effect on bed managing.

It would also mean that the patient pays for the drugs, and. Not the hospital, thus saving the hospital thousands, if not millions of pounds.

I had to wait three hours for my drugs.

I think this suggestion should go to the minister of health and upwards.

Thank you for reading this
