I was in the hospital from last Monday to Saturday having a complete left knee replacement. I can complement all of the staff with my care with one departmental exception.
The food service was nothing less than appalling.
• The staff were incapable of taking and delivering the choice of menu. Almost every day something was wrong. The fruit juice was left off, no milk was supplied for cereals and I was expected to eat it with the tea spoon. Naturally I complained.
• One day my Dinner choice was not requested and no Dinner was supplied. The ward staff produced a baked potato but I was past feeling hungry. I am diabetic!
• The food was hardly ever produced on time and it was important as I needed to take various medications connected with Diabetes.
• The same menu was produced 2 or 3 days in succession and was boring. This has never happened in any other hospital belonging to BMI.
• The food was often unpalatable, especially the Braised Beef Hotpot.
• One person trying to get the order correct, took my lunch, dinner, and the next day’s breakfast orders together. Later that day another food staff member came to take the next day’s breakfast order even though it was already on their list. A good job, because I had apparently ordered an omelette and I do not remember ordering any kind of cooked breakfast.
• Even when the Head of Nursing had visited me, as the Manager of the food section was not at the hospital, and had noted my comments reiterated today, the staff still could not get it right.
