"My sister and her husband's treatment"

About: Bassetlaw Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust / NHS 111

(as a relative),

My sister was admitted to Bassetlaw hospital for a hip operation in January. One Sunday my wife and I decided to visit my brother in law at home prior to visiting my sister in hospital. Both are in their 70's. When we arrived we found my brother in law in a serious state disorientated and in pain. We immediately called 111, explained the situation and were advised we would receive a call back within 1 hr. The service called back within 1/2hr and the Specialist Support team arrived shortly thereafter. The team comprised Craig and Chelsea.

Very quickly and thoroughly professionally the team identified the problem and decided to admit my brother-in- law to hospital immediately using their own vehicle. We followed and met the team and patient in A&E where it appeared he would have to be admitted to Doncaster because of the nature of the complaint. As my sister was already a patient in Bassetlaw we naturally thought it better husband and wife be hospitalised in the same location but perfectly understood the problem. Shortly after arrival Craig rang the consultant at Doncaster, explained the nature of the problem and the action the support team had taken whereupon the Consultant advised that as they had already done everything that Doncaster would do it made sense for the patient to be admitted to Bassetlaw. The specialist team then helped to get the patient admitted to ATC ward very soon after arrival. Within an hour my brother in law was admitted and on the ward being examined and treated. He stayed there receiving excellent care and was discharged along with my sister early February, Both speak in glowing terms with respect to the care they both received.

For my part I cannot speak highly enough of both members of the specialist support team who acted with the highest degree of professionalism and care in a thoroughly patient/relative aware manner which gave confidence to all involved. They followed up in hospital staying beyond the end of shifts to ensure my brother in law was admitted and settled. In the current politically driven climate where all we tend to hear of are NHS failings I can only state that in this case and in my own experiences with respect to my own treatment at the hands of another NHS trust Bassetlaw's performance was outstanding and worthy of high praise. Please pass on to all those concerned our great appreciation of their efforts. Highly commendable. Many thanks.

What a fantastic review for East Midlands Ambulance Service and Bassetlaw Hospital.

I am so pleased to read that your sister and brother in law received such excellent care and that they are both now home recouperating.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give our staff this lovely feedback, it really does mean a great deal to us. I am so glad that you and your family received such care and compassion and I will ensure your review is shared with the teams involved and your grateful thanks passed on.

Regards

Gill
