"Outdoor space calms me and gives things meaning"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Moor Green

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been feeling really tired today because I didn't get enough sleep. I am not exactly religious but I believe there is something there and I pray. I try to pray every day but I feel staff don't support me with that.

I can speak to my care co-ordinator as she is quite brilliant. Outdoor space calms me and gives things meaning. The Events Co-ordinator gets us out at weekends which is brilliant. Wednesdays was Women's Day and she got us out of the ward all day, doing things.

When I am off the ward, I feel more relaxed and happy. It helps you to get away from everyone. There is no fresh air on the ward and it is nice to be out and away with people with positive influences.

Because I am unescorted courtyard. I get opportunities every day and I can go out when I want to as long a security say it's ok because there is a certain amount of unescorted patients that can go out at one time.

Beauty products and making yourself look nice helps. If you have leave you can get access to these things and if you have no leave the staff are pretty good at getting things for you.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your thoughts and feedback. It is important for us to receive feedback as it helps us make improvements to meet your needs and wellbeing. I am pleased to hear you are making the most of your unescorted leave away from the ward. It's really important for everyone to have access to fresh air which, as you say, makes you feel more relaxed and happy. In relation to your feeling that you are not supported with your prayers, please feel free to contact your Nurse Manager on the ward, Marlon, who will be happy to make arrangements for you to discuss this further with our chaplaincy department.
