"It's our own stuff so why can't we have it?"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Edgbaston

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Staff are happy to escort to the café. You have to get us in the morning to request to go to the canteen. Staff put snacks in named boxes in the store room. If you ask for a snack at 9pm at night, they say it's too late to have it and you have to wait until after breakfast.

It is your own stuff so why can't you have it? We are allowed a limited amount in our room, so patients do try to get more food in their room without getting caught.

Thank you for your feedback. I will be taking your question back to the wards, as it raises an important question. We do have to be mindful about the amount, and type, of food that people consume, as we actively promote healthy lifestyles, but we all understand that, in moderation, snacks can be enjoyed as part of a healthy lifestyle. However, any limits should be planned on an individual basis.

Please continue to give your feedback, and I hope to be able to provide some further information to community meetings in future.
