"My husband's back operation"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as a relative),

My husband had a back operation in Queen's Hospital this week.

The care of the staff was exemplary and I can only praise the attention he received.

However, he was discharged at 3. 00 p. m. and we had to wait until 8. 15 p. m. for the drugs he needed to take with him to be brought to the ward from the Pharmacy.

This is apparently not unusual. I think something needs to be done to improve the efficiency of the discharge system so that beds can be freed up more quickly and patients who have had operations are not kept waiting around unnecessarily.

I am delighted to hear of the wonderful treatment your husband received following his back surgery at Queen’s Hospital.

It is lovely to read of your praise for the staff that provided him with such wonderful care during his stay.

I am disappointed however to read your comments regarding the delay in discharge.

We always encourage patient feedback and suggestions and I take on board your comments relating to the waiting time for prescriptions from pharmacy, this will be passed onto our Patient Experience Team.

I hope that your husband is recovering well and I thank you for taking the time to provide us with your comments.

Yours sincerely

Associate Medical Director
