What I liked
The hospital is modern, easy access for disabled and parking is plentiful. Reception impressive and very helpful staff.
Signing in and out of the ward clearly provides security. Many hand cleansing units on display and used frequently.
What could be improved
Meals need an improvement and I understood from staff that it comes as chill/serve from Wales. Nutrition and Well balanced diet was not apparrent.
Most staff were helpful and caring though a few may benefit from re-training to remind them the meaning of nursing. It is a vocation yet a few were hostile and unwilling to offer help or advice.
New patients are generally placed at Bradwell as a means of convalesence. Naturally new patients are anxious yet no-one seemed to put them at ease. One lady patient was vomiting and clearly distressed yet no-one responded which I felt unprofessional. I overheard a gentleman asking for help and it took quite some time for a nurse to respond. As most patients are elderly they are particularly vulnerable. Various patients discussed aspects with their visitors - and often shared their experiences with other visitors. No comments gave a good picture. Visitors clearly had a case to complain but feared repercussions from some staff to the patients.
Generally, most support workers, domestics and staff nurses were trying to cover all areas but can only tend to one patient. We found an Agency staff nurse particularly hostile and after complaining our fears materialised with her ignoring my relative which caused more anxiety.
