"Poor care for my mother after cardiac surgery"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Cardiac surgery

(as a relative),

I am writing on behalf of my late mother who passed away a couple of years ago following heart surgery at royal hospital Belfast.

My mother was in hospital for 12 weeks. During this time the care was absolutely appalling. This included poor medical care to include not being treated for sepsis infection which lead to her being transferred to ICU for second time. Junior doctor not administering medication as prescribed, care assistant using bad language and slamming door when help requested to go to bathroom, being thrown into bed by student nurse and same care assistant who cursed previously, nurse not administering ENT feed as prescribed and mum was too unwell to eat herself at this time so relying on this nutrition.

And senior nurse having to take me and my father into a store room to tell us that they were concerned my mum had not been given drugs earlier that week that had been prescribed.

After being very unwell and family advised mum was going to have to return to ICU and after some type of drug was given she made great recovery at this time, although died very suddenly one week later while still in hospital.

We have complained about the care our mother received and unfortunately this process has been hell. The trust still do not appear to be taking this matter seriously and still 2 and a half years later we still do not have answers that we need.
