"These course are invaluable and a necessity"

About: Abbey and Lady Bay Children's Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

Having a career in care I always thought I had enough life saving skills. My first aid was up to date. I had no concerns. Then I had my son and I realised that first aid for babies and toddlers was a different ball game.

A first aid course became available through sure start and I jumped at the chance to get on it.

I took so much away from that course that I eventually passed on to my other half.

The most important being how to dis lodge food safely.

As most mothers you reach that time when your not quite sure if your baby is ready for solids. It's is both exciting and scary when you begin to introduce solids for the fear of choking.

Two months after receiving my first aid training my worst fear came true!

I had introduced a variety of solids to my son. He happily sat in his high chair, his dad sat at the table and I was pottering around the house. I heard my other half say "he's choking" without thinking I immediately put into action all the skills I had learnt. I took my son out his high chair and safely dis lodged the culprit (toast if I recall)

Later that night I taught my other half what to do.

These course are invaluable and a necessity to all new parents.

Hi

oh my goodness I am so happy that you were able to respond so effectively when your lttle boy was choking. I agree the knowledge and skills gained from these courses are invaluable and your story shows this so well.

At Rushcliffe children's centres we are very committed to supporting local families in every way we can. I am so pleased our work is paying off.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and we hope to see you in the centres again soon.
