"Misleading information on tests never performed"

About: County Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I am writing to complain about a letter that a consultant has written containing misinformation and totally false tests that they never carried out on me.

I was seen by this consultant only once last year on a late appointment after 5: 00 pm. They did not examine me, nor did they perform any tests, the consultation lasted no longer than a few minutes. I left feeling extremely disappointed that my symptoms were not taken seriously and suggested that my problem was easily solved by returning to my GP to have a repeat prescription of antibiotic thus I did.

I was feeling so unwell and found their attitude upsetting as they did not seem to take my health seriously. The current situation is that although I have been taking antibiotics for over a year, my health has not improved, instead I feel that the problem is becoming much worse; being an impediment to my work as a lecturer and preventing me from getting restful sleep. Feeling constantly pain and discomfort I made an appointment to see my doctor in the practice whom had to refer me for further tests, based on my condition of continuing abdominal pain and urinary infection.

Recently, I have seen a different consultant (an excellent consultant) at the County Hospital. During this consultation, I learnt about the letter written by the first consultant which contained inaccurate information about tests that  had never been performed.

Following my appointment with the original consultant, last year, to this day, the 6 March 2017, I have suffered with several infections, constant abdominal pain, sleepless nights affecting my work. I am sad, disappointed and very distressed. Particularly because my husband at the age of 39 was diagnosed with terminal cancer after a consultant at Stafford Hospital over 20 years ago failed to perform an important test that would have identified the cancer at a much earlier stage.

Appreciating that you all are working very hard to improve the image of the County hospital, in times of the growing financial pressure on the NHS. you should consider that blunders of doctors are unaffordable for the NHS. In the light of my experience, I believe it is very important that you are aware of any wrong doings from the professionals that you fully trust to influence patients’ health positive outcomes. Besides, the hospital in Stafford is very much needed for the benefit of the community of the town and I know well that the hospital also have excellent consultants who treat patients with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.

I look forward to receiving an explaining this consultant's behaviour.

Thank you.
