I attended the A&E department at about 8pm on 25th February 2017 with throbbing chest pains. Earlier I rang the NHS Helpline who deduced I needed an ambulance because of the chest pains. This arrived within 10 minutes of finishing the call and after basic checks and an ECG in the ambulance, the paramedic told me they'd take me to A&E because of a slight anomaly in the ECG readings. I had visions of waiting on a trolley, in a corridor for hours but no, within 5 minutes I was wheeled into a cubicle in Resus and attached to an ECG monitor. Then a nurse took blood samples and checked my medical history details. I was seen by a doctor within an hour and the doctor ordered a chest X-ray.
The diagnosis was gastric reflux and the doctor prescribed medication to relieve my condition, with a recommendation to see my GP and arrange further investigation for a suspected stomach ulcer at my local hospital in Chester. I was discharged just after midnight. I cannot praise enough the excellent care I received by all the medical staff and it covered two shifts as the night staff started shortly after I arrived. The doctor on duty had a very caring attitude and explained things clearly. All the staff were busy with other patients, both in the Resus cubicles and other areas so they really all deserve high praise for doing a great job no doubt under great pressure at busy times.
"Excellent service in A&E"
