I was a day case patient in February, I was in for an endometrial ablation, staff on ward 7 were fantastic I have no complaints.
It was a different story when it came to the prcedure.
I was given plenty of pain relief along with an anti sickness tablet prior to the procedure.
I was informed that I would only feel a slight cramping pain like period pain.
If only this was the case!
I really have a high pain threshold, but just giving tablets and then a local anesthetic is really the wrong thing to do. I can honestly say i have never experienced pain like it.
The nurse holding my hand was excellent, they tried their best to take my mind off what was happening, but nothing would work.
I almost passed out, went grey in colour, shaking and then had to be taken back to the ward on a bed.
I was sick on a number of occasions.
One of the nurses said to me if they ever had this procedure, they would have a general anesthetic.
This speaks volumes to me.
I know that cuts have to be made, but surely this would be better under sedation or a general anesthetic.
I am not sure at this time if this procedure has worked, so this is not to discourage anybody from having it done, but it is a warning to think twice about having it done under a local anesthetic.
This will only numb the neck of the womb, this pain goes through the whole body.
Please Birmingham Womens, think twice before performing this procedure.
Please be honest about the pain that women will go through.
This has made my recovery longer, and I still feel anxious about what I have been through.
"Lovely staff horrendous experience"
