"People should listen more to people with autism"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Speedwell

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

People should listen more to people with autism. You could learn more from ideas from autistic people. I think you should bring people together from different hospitals so they can bounce ideas off each other about what it is like to have autism and look at how we can make things better for people with autism. You can never tell what a person is thinking and bringing people together will also get people socialising. Have autistic events.

This sounds a very valid idea, we are currently looking at getting patients more involved within the meetings staff have around the running of the pathway etc and this will help with this idea. Also I will feedback to the OT group and see if we can get more events within the pathway.

thank you so much and I totally agree patients know more about autism than the staff do as you live with this daily and I hope we can support you more.
