"Patient Request Ignored"

Whilst visiting my relative on ward 31 of Tameside Hospital recently, I witnessed these events. I became aware of another patient in the ward. I do not know this patient, but I was upset about what I saw. This elderly patient was shouting the nurse, asking to be sat up against the pillows as they were leaning to the side. A nurse told them that they would need to get another member of staff as they can’t move them on their own. Two nurses came over, asking ‘what is the matter?’. The patient told them they would like to be sat up as they were leaning over. The nurse asked them if they wanted tea. The patient repeated themselves and the two nurses just walked way ignoring their request. I found this treatment absolutely heart breaking and disgusting.

We are very sorry your service user has had cause to raise this concern.

Without the specific details of the patient it is difficult to comment and investigate the issues owing to the nature of the concerns you have raised.

Please could you request that they contact the PALS and Complaints Department on 0161 922 4166 or email palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk in order for us to investigate these issues further.

However, please be assured that in the meantime, we have asked the Senior Nurse on Ward 31 to look into the issues raised as a matter of urgency.
