"Infliximab treatment at Princess Royal Hospital"

About: Princess Royal Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I have Crohn's disease and need an intravenous infusion of Infliximab every couple of months.

Until recently, this was done in a busy endoscopy unit in Brighton where the wait was often long and everyone was stressed out (patients and staff).

This autumn, the Infliximab service was moved to the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Health, a 60 minutes bus journey away.

Despite the extra journey time, my experience is now a hundred times better.

The atmosphere on the unit is quiet and relaxed. The staff are also more relaxed, which means the canula goes in first time and any problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

The change has also meant that other patients are having the treatment at the same time so - if we want to - we can chat, exchange stories and tips about living with Crohn's disease.

I guess the only problem is that if I have a flare up and need the loo 20+ times a day, sitting on a bus for an hour is not and option ;-) However, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
