"My hard work and determination has been well worth it."

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / The Woodlands (inpatient unit for substance misuse)

(as the patient),

Before I came to Woodlands for my alcohol detox I was an alcoholic for 35 years. I was very apprehensive about my impending stay but as soon as I arrived I was met and greeted by a member of staff who explained everything to me. I was shown to my own room where I just sobbed my heart out. Staff checked on me on a regular basis which continued throughout my stay. As the first day ended I was still very fragile but was getting used to being at the Woodlands. I did have severe withdrawal from the alcohol but was looked after very well by all members of staff at all times. As the days went by the symptoms of withdrawal eased and I felt a bit more human. Then came the time to go home and boy did the 7 days fly by.

I found going home hard but the following day after arriving home I was due to have my induction for rehab at Alcohol and Drug Services in Hull. I spent 3 months in rehab which was fantastic. It has been nearly a year now since I spent a week in detox at the Woodlands and I have achieved been alcohol free in that time. Chrismas was hard and Valentine's day was also hard but with support from my husband and family I have got through the difficult times. I also went on an all inclusive holiday to Greece where the alcohol flowed freely but I achieved my goal of going to the bar and ordering a lemonade. Yes there were some times that I thought of having a drink of alcohol but am glad to say I resisted.

I am now well into being alcohol free for over 340 days and feel absolutely great and am able to get up in the morning without feeling or being sick. My hard work and determination has been well worth it.

Thank you so much to all the staff at The Woodlands for giving me their time and effort in helping me to get this far in my recovery from alcohol abuse. Your service is fantastic.

Hi There

Firstly I'd like to thank you so very much for taking time to give us this feedback. Feedback is invaluable to any service, to help it grow and evolve, but to receive such a positive account of not only your stay but also your ongoing recovery means the world to us.

From the sounds of things you have worked so hard to maintain your abstinance and you should be so so proud of what you have achieved.

I'm just about to chair our monthly staff meeting and I'll pass on your comments (with great pride) to the staff team who I'm sure will receive them in the same way.

Once again, thankyou and massive congratulations.

Kevin Howard, Woodlands Deputy Manager.

Thank you so much for replying so quickly and yes please pass on to your staff how grateful I am to them for helping me so much and without them I couldn't have got this far. I hold the Woodlands in very high esteem and like I have said your staff are amazing. The Woodlands is a great facility for service users who have any form of substance abuse and your staff are very well trained in their field of expertise and this really shows in the way they deal with service users and their particular substance misuse. I know I still have a long way to go in my recovery in abstaining from alcohol but you and your staff have helped me laying a foundation of strength in helping me with my alcohol addiction.
