"I want to get the meds right so I feel better"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Hawkesley

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have only been at St Andrew's for one month and this is my first time in hospital. I was transferred here from prison so I don't get to go out yet. My family are involved so this is good. The staff explained things to me when I arrived and it is ok on this ward. I probably have a care co-ordinator but I haven't had any explanation about care plans. I do have a nurse that speaks to me a lot. I get on with the other patients here and I like to relax although I am a bit bored. I don't actually think I could cope with anything more yet because I still really feel agitated all the time and my meds are not right. For me I need to get the meds right so that I feel better.

Thank you for giving us your feedback about your initial experience in Birmingham. I'm glad that you feel that staff took time to orientate you to the ward, but do feel that we need to work on explaining the care plan process and the importance of your involvement in this. When you feel able, you may want to give more feedback about how we can improve the experience for new admissions. If you do, please talk to your care coordinator, or a member of the patient experience team.
