My Father a doctor, was admitted to Don Baines ward for rehabilitation after being in hospital for a month with a stomach bug.
He spent a month in this ward afterwhich our family took him out as no improvement in his mobilty had been made at all and he was starving.
This ward had some shifts where the staff were horrible.
They would avoid any eye contact so they didn't have to engage with us.
We were locked out of the ward outside visiting times and at meal times and not let back in until visiting had started, there was restricted visiting, why? It was not helpful when you are travelling for 2 hours to get there, no interaction with us, nowhere to get a hot drink or food, no thing ofeed to us.
What did this ward have to hide.
Some members of staff lied not just to us but to senior staff members.
My Father was so hungary and to weak to feed himself when he came out.
He was made to wait in a corridor for half an hour with just pyjamas on and got very cold he was then given a cold bath because the junior staff member who had asked for help but was told to get on with it by a sister, didn't know how to work the bath. This was very concerning.
He had a number of falls. We had no choice but to help with his personal care, which was difficult for my Father and for us.
Sadly my Father died a few weeks ago and I don't think the care given in Don Baines ward helped.
If you have a family member going into this ward I would suggest you watch them very closely.
Other patients would ask us for help because they were to frightened to ask the staff.
What sort of ward is that.
