I've had a skin problem for about 10 years, and I never thought to ask to be referred to a specialist. I was afraid that the process would be too long or arduous or that I wasn't sick enough to receive treatment for it. But I was referred this month, and I turned up at the Lauriston Building today, and the doctor looked at my skin and within about 5 mins had diagnosed me and given me a repeat prescription for very specific medicines that I haven't been given by my GP before.
I am so delighted by how efficient and professional the NHS has been with this. I won't be too ashamed to ask for a referral again, and I am so glad that such a service is available on the NHS. The doctor also gave me a little bit of advice that I don't think is limited to medicine: he said, 'the internet always shows the worst case scenario'. He's so right, and I am so glad for how kind he was and how well he seemed to know what I was thinking.
