"Anaesthetist, surgeon and theatre ..."

About: Hampshire Clinic

What I liked

Anaesthetist, surgeon and theatre staff all very professional. Food good. Surroundings pleasant. An experienced ward nurse I encountered in the morning on day one post op was very competent and helpful.

What could be improved

1)Pre-operative advice regarding fasting given by ward nurses was outdated. Told to be Nil by Mouth from midnight! Not told I could have clear fluids up to 2 hours pre-op, probably contributed to my dehydration, Urinary tract infection and constipation post op.

2)Ward nurses knowledge of pain control very poor. No assessment of pain score done on ward. The chart for this was completely blank. I was left in severe pain for long period of time on second day post op. major gynae surgery. Once PCA was discontinued, not given adequate pain relief at all.

3) Toilet flushing was an extremely difficult push button, almost impossible to operate after abdominal surgery.
