"My sons care"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

Following an attack my son needed in surgery to both legs. a week after he was told he is being discharged and they will put him in a taxi to housing aid.

He has crutches, stitches, needs physio and a diagnosis if poor recovery and having a disability foot drop.

He rang and told me this. So I brought him to my 2 bedroomed home and he is sharing a room with his 12 year old sister.

In 3 days he has fallen twice. I am unable to lift him into the bath. I am caring for him which I will do but there was no discharge plan given or an assessment of support needed. I have paid tax and NI for decades and we are British citizens.

I feel we have been let down by a service which we are entitled to use.

I'm very sorry to hear of the difficulties your son is experiencing following his discharge from hospital. It is difficult to comment on individual cases without knowing the patient here, but we would like to be able to help you and your son if we can. If you could get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 083 0204 they will do all they can to get you the help needed.

Kind regards

Andrew Steggles

Patient Experience Officer

As an update. I did contact the social services department myself at Nottingham City Adult Social Care and they transferred me to the Community Rehab team who will be carrying out an assessment.
