My mum was admitted into the Accident and Emergency unit of The Leicester Royal Infirmary last Monday and she was diagnosed with pneumonia and septicemia. She is 94 years old and is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease. She was seen to very quickly. The care she received in the resus area was outstanding. When her condition stabilised she was moved to Majors where she was treated with great dignity and kindness by the doctors and nurses. All of the staff in A and E worked efficiently and cheerfully. The doctors agreed that my mum should be admitted to hospital and she was taken by a lovely porter, who spoke with such graciousness and goodness, to Ward 33. There she was transferred to a bed and remained for 24 hours. The staff in this ward were obviously under great strain but they helped mum and myself to cope with this sudden admission to hospital. The following day mum was moved to ward 31. I know that there were not enough carers on this ward but they did their very best to look after mum and to cope with me, a very demanding relative. They were patient and understanding at all times. I want to mention two members of staff who were especially kind to me. There was also a lovely student nurse, who was very good and the activities co-ordinator was very kind and helpful. Thanks to all the staff from the paramedics who brought Mum to hospital, the doctors and nurses in A and E, all on wards 31 and 33 and all the support staff, like the porters who work back stage and who are so vital to the smooth running of the hospital. Thanks to each and everyone of you for caring for my mum so well this week. You should all be so proud of yourselves for the work you do every day for the people of Leicester. Thank you - you are a great team.
"Thank you for your kindness and care"
