"Accident and Emergency - Triage Waiting Area Toilets"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

After an unfortunate visit to the A&E department tonight with my relative I am disgusted at the standards of cleanliness and infection control in the waiting area toilet.

As a nursing professional myself, I am aware of standards relating to infection control and hygiene in a hospital.

On entering the bathroom I was appalled to find feaces and urine all over the toilet floor.

I am well aware of an overstretched NHS especially in the early hours of a Saturday morning but I cannot justify 3 domestic workers taking a cigarette break outside the hospital whilst the public toilet for patients and relatives is an absolute disgrace.

Dear Shaun15129

I am sorry to hear that you have encountered the toilet facilities within the emergency department to be in the condition you described. I will discuss this with Property Services and Support Department staff and raise your concerns in relation to this and domestic staff who you witnessed smoking.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention

kind regards

Morag

We apologise for the condition you found the public toilets and we will review frequency of cleaning of these facilities. Staff are reminded that when they are on breaks they can not smoke on Health Board Grounds.
