"It was a waste of my time to come down to the hospital"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had broken my metatarsal at approximately the end of November and attended A and E where my foot was xrayed and I was given a moon boot to wear for three weeks then phase it out over the next two because I was told these fractures usually heal very well.
I attended my GP in early January who sent me for it to be xrayed again and after speaking with my GP a week later I was told that it had not healed at all. My G.P contacted the on call registrar in orthopaedics who said I should return to wearing the moon boot which I did. I then received an appointment to see an orthopaedic consultant for which I had to take time off my work to travel to the Victoria only to be told that these fractures do take a long time to heal contrary to what I was told and that I just had to wear the moon boot for another two months.
It was a waste of my time to come down to the hospital only to have the instruction repeated that was given over the phone by the on call registrar. The doctor I saw only had a cursory look at my foot for about thirty seconds if that and said that if was still sore to come back two months later.
I dont see why I was given an appointment to see a foot specialist who I did not even see when there was no action taken and that they likely knew that they were going to advice the wearing of the boot which I had already been told. I think this was a waste of nhs time and money as well as my time.

Dear littlemo,

I am sorry to read that you feel disappointed with aspects of your recent care.

I have spoken to the Clinical Lead for Orthopedics and he advised that he would be willing to review your concerns.

If you would like to contact me directly I would be happy to speak with you in the first instance.
