"Treatment at A&E in Stoke"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

We arrived as my daughter was sent by her doctor to be put on intravenous antibiotic drip for an ongoing cyst & ulcer in her groin after months of being sent away from A&E she finally got an operation last week.

Which has since been infected hence being to to A& E. after waiting hours she finally was seen only to have your gyne team refuse to see her. We had to get her doctor to personally speak to your nurses in A&E & gyne team which finally got her seen. A surgeon came into the room sneezing everywhere not washing their hands before observing my daughter then only to tell her she has to take yet another antibiotic & go home, which I completely refused to except giving the fact her doctor insisted she was to be put on antibiotic drip & needed it drained as she is full of infection.

Then your surgeon told us after me threatening to take her to another hospital that they can do that but she'd be sat in the hall on a antibiotic drip all night & you won't feed her. Absolutely disgusting treatment. I went mad. What kind of hospital is this?

After me fighting for 6 hours they finally got her a bed but no medication till 11. 20 pm. The service we recievesd was disgusting the way they spoke to us was disgusting. She is now having another operation. I will never come back to that hospital again.

Dear Mariea

I am very sorry to hear of your daughters visit to the A&E department at Stoke Mandeville hospital, where you feel the treatment she received and the way you were spoken to by staff was unacceptable. I can understand how frustrating this situation must have been for you and your daughter at the time and we are concerned to learn that this was your experience of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s services.

It is also very disappointing to read that you now feel you will never visit Stoke Mandeville Hospital again.

We hope that you may be happy to speak with us in some more detail about your experience, so that we can understand what happened more clearly and explore ways in which we can assist and improve our patient experience in the Trust.

If you are happy to share more detail about your specific experience with us, please contact our dedicated Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 or email pals@buckshealthcare.nhs.uk
