"My arm brace was improperly fitted"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

After waiting 6 long months owing to hospital failures surgery finally happened.

Had block and general anaesthetic.

Despite seeing numerous sisters and nurses nobody checked my arm brace that had not been properly fitted.

After a while at home in the evening the arm brace dropped so my arm was at 90 degrees to the ground.

So I had to visit the hospital again and a site manager agreed it was not correctly fitted.

I am very disappointed the brace was not correctly fitted in the first place and I had to make a return trip when I should have been relaxing getting over the anaesthetic

Also I am worried this might have compromised the surgery.

Dear localman,

I am sorry to hear that you had to return to have your arm brace checked, this is not what we would wish for our patients and I understand that it must have caused you some inconvenience and discomfort. I hope your concerns have now been resolved, but if you have further questions please contact Rebecca Dunsterville, the matron for orthopedics who can assist you further. Rebecca can be contacted by emailing her: Rebecca.dunsterville@sash.nhs.uk

Kind regards,

Jamie Moore

Divisional chief nurse, surgery
