"I have never raised my voice since being on this ward"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Spencer South

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I don't want to be in St Andrew's hospital because I don't feel safe. I don't think they safeguard things in the right way. The staff have poor judgement, in my personal opinion, about when to intervene when the atmosphere is escalating between patients.

An example of this is when I was subjected to homophobic comments aimed at me in a very confrontational and aggressive manner. Staff should have intervened when they heard this shouting, however they left it until it became an assault on the patient.

I feel like the staff are not fully aware of my care plan - if they were, they would have known to intervene if I start shouting. I have never raised my voice since being on this ward.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you do not feel safe at St Andrew's. I would like to assure you that we take safeguarding of all patients very seriously.

You have raised some interesting points and I will bring your comments to the attention of staff in your service and I encourage you to speak to the staff or advocates about this. I have also passed your comments to our Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Lead who will follow this up with your ward and has offered to meet with you if you would like this to happen.

Best wishes

Sophia
