"Excellent care on Disney ward "

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

Yesterday I took my eldest son to Disney ward to have his second pair of grommets inserted. We'd had our appointment date for a while which had given him ample time to become anxious and some what afraid as he had been down to surgery before (although years earlier)! After a wonderful pre opp visit at children's outpatients he became calm knowing everything that was going to happen and coming to hospital may not be as bad as he first anticipated.

The best way to describe his visit can only be fantastic. What wonderful staff there are working on Disney. Nothing is a bother, these people work so hard. We were put at ease as soon as we arrived and the rest of our time there was most comfortable. The way my son was addressed was wonderful, making him feel he was in control, staff asking him the questions about him. Being talked to instead of talked about is so important when you are 7!

This atmosphere was generated by all, but the star of the day for us was Vicky (apologies I can't remember your surname). Obviously the tension rises some what when you actually arrive at theatre- or does it. My son was kept laughing and smiling by a super chap named Roly, who my sons refers to as Roly-forgetful-Ruffles. This is due to the wonderful way he managed to get my son attached to everything he had to be attached to without realising what was happening. How wonderful for me the mother of the patient to leave the area smiling, confident he was in good hands. You are all to be commended for a brilliant service. Thank you.
