"General impression of the hospital ..."

What I liked

General impression of the hospital was good. Comfortable waiting areas, friendly staff, comfortable, clean room.

What could be improved

I had a left hand carpal tunnel operation (privatley because the discomfort was so great I couldn't wait for an NHS operation), on 13 June 2007. I was given a local anaesthetic, rather than an arm block. The injection of the local anaesthetic was extremely painful. My whole hand felt as if a strong electric current was flowing through it. This went on during the whole time of the injection. Presumably the injection was into the nerve by mistake. It was an awful experience. But that was not the end of it. About halfway through the operation I felt great pain and was actually in tears as it was so unbearable. The anaesthetic was not workling fully. More anaesthetic was sprayed onto the wound and the operation eventually continued. I can't imagine a worse experience, with this operation, than I had. Something went seriously wrong with the anaesthetising process.
