"18 Weeks to be left in pain"

About: New Birmingham Dental Hospital

I have severe dental pain and was under my dentist for the last 2 months before they decided to refer me to the hospital. I received an appointment card today and was told that it would be at least 18 weeks and that they couldn't even book an appointment for me presently. Do you not feel this is unacceptable given the circumstances?

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing severe dental pain.

The appointment card from the Birmingham Dental Hospital advises you of the usual waiting times to be seen in clinic.

However if your pain is such that you feel unable to wait, you may wish to discuss this with the dentist who referred you to ask that they both help to manage your pain whilst waiting, and that they contact the hospital having reviewed and revised the urgency recorded on the referral.

If you wish to request a time slot to attend the hospital Urgent Care service, please phone NHS 111 who will be able to help you.

For more information about the services available at Birmingham Dental Hospital, please contact the Customer Services Team on 0800 917 2855

With kind regards
